"Purpose Proposal"

Many of us go through our lives on auto-pilot. We go to work, we pay the bills, we maintain the family, and some of us explore relationships with others. Throughout our existence we have questioned the fundamental reason we are placed on this earth. A lot of people do this through religion or science and sometimes both. Why is it so important for us to know what our purpose is, and what is in store for us after this life?

If we start from the very beginning of our life, we immediately start crying out for attention. We soak up knowledge through what we see. We see the way our parents may behave, or the people around us, and begin to develop a foundation of what we call boundaries today. The most common boundary types are physical and mental. This means we set limits such as not touching something because it is hot, or not trying to run too far because we will tire.

Research has shown, the individuals that continue to explore the basic questions, that everyone else states they have a full understanding of are the most successful people. Let me give you a brief example. A archeologist continued to explore after they found answers to some of the animals that have lived in the past. They could have easily stopped right there, when the found dinosaurs, but they continued to explore, which led to more and more knowledge. In our lives, this is exactly what a lot of us do. We find a piece of information that we feel comfortable with...and stop looking. This is why so many people are afraid to continue to learn. Through personal accounts, I have found this to be the most common with the elderly.

I was working in a call center for a while, and would constantly help customers out with their phones. I had a lot of older customer's call in completely frantic because they could not turn their phone on. After empathizing with the customer, and listening to their concerns, I found out the root cause of this was fear. Could we possibly be afraid of our actual potential in life, so we stop exploring it?

I feel this is the case. Maybe our dreams actually scare us, or success seems so unrealistic that if it actually happened we would not know what to do with it. I will discuss potential in another entry. People want to find their purpose because they know time is fleeing, and deep down inside most of us know this may be our only shot. After studying many successful scholars in our present day, and history I discovered they all had one thing in common. They asked every single day, what they were doing to better their day and life. It could be simple; our purpose, could be just that, to continue exploring and learning while finding serenity and happiness with the one chance we may be given at the gift called life.
