"Rich Or Poor"

Rich or Poor—

Throughout history people have been defined by wealth. What is the real reason for this? Have people really allowed the government and other individuals to define who they are, and what they will achieve based on wealth? Are these two types of people viewed differently today, or how about in the past?

Do the wealthy think they are not in fact rich, and need to achieve more? Do the poor settle and accept their current circumstances, or envy the wealthy? The answer is they do all of these things, but why? Everyone has heard that mundane saying that money makes the world go round. This drove me crazy growing up, because I thought for sure people would look past materialism and into the heart of someone. While folks….I suppose I was wrong.

Success is statistically related to more of the population as having money, than not having money. In a lot of cases family, friends, co-workers and other people will give you more respect and time if this is something you have. There have been a lot of films such as “get rich or die trying” explaining just what people will do or “Wolf of Wall Street” to obtain financial freedom. As we know it all comes with a cost.

The consequences of the wealthy can go on and on. Lack of sleep. high pressure, loss of time, always on the go, frantic, etc. Could the same not be said for the poor? Although money does not effect everyone the same way or the lack of, many religious beliefs state this is the “root of all evil” Is there truth to this?

Money allows you to have almost anything you want. It allows you to escape crime, it allows you to be able to build and create ideas from nothing and obtain all the equipment and means necessary to do so. When you are poor, many people will argue from a political standpoint that our country is the land of opportunity. Let’s look at minimum wage. Mathematically it does not add up for an honest everyday working person to be able to survive. Yet, we continue to turn a blind eye, while corporations capitalize on others losses, and yes I said losses. If you look at a business, they are designed to under pay, under staff and finally...overwork. This is the ultimate equation that people  use,  which creates the division in financial classes. So how does it happen? How do you go from poor to wealthy? Most will argue hard work and sacrifice. How about help? A lot of those people have acquired something special; a mentor, that helped them make the transition. Is someone born into wealth going to be different than someone that has worked very hard to achieve it? Yes; in most cases. This can be terrible in both instances. If you struggled your entire way up the ladder, or into the wealthy class, you may begin to have strong resentments as to what you had to go through, or forget where you came from.

The bottom line is, money is needed to survive. Without it, food and water are not available. You cannot even go into a National Forest or camp somewhere random without a ticket from a  State Ranger. We cannot find unclaimed land and establish ourselves anymore, which means we have become confined. Will we the people continue to allow this, or strive for something different for our future generations, and the glimpse of hope left for mankind? Is this all you will live for, to hope you make enough money to survive and become happy, and by doing so possibly never get to live the way you actually wanted to? What would the world look like if we did not have money in the equation? I suppose we may not ever find the answer to this. May the next generation work hard toward stepping out of their comfort zone, and stand for change. The truth is….many of you won’t want to, or will be herded in like little sheep, collecting your pay and shopping online. May you all prosper.
